GMNEA ELKHOUNDS ARE OUT TO PROVE VERSATILITY!
Elkhounds can now participate in AKC Conformation, Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Pet Therapy, Lure Coursing, , and BarnHunt and earn titles. Herding is non AKC, but elkhounds enjoy it and have wonderful instinct. Nosework, also non AKC, is another fun activity for using their nose to find things.
BARNHUNT!
1 May 2013, Harry Beggs and Kari Olson went to a practice for Barnhunt. This is a sport, arising out of the terrier style hunts "go to ground" but this is done above ground, within a hay bale maze. During the practice, the dogs are introduced to rats, and the bales, which they need to go through a tunnel and jump over bales. They then need to use scent to see which of three tubes contains a rat. The practice was for an instinct test. If a novice title is earned , it will count with AKC for a fee and will become an AKC title. Here are some photos taken of Kari's dogs, taken by Harry Beggs.

HUNTING
Some elkhounds will be participating in Barn Hunt in 2013. This activity may be proof of hunting instinct. Barn hunt is a hay bale maze with a confined rat for the dog to locate. No rat is harmed.
Elkhounds love to hunt. If they cant find a moose, they will hunt squirrels, chipmunks and mice. "Birka is after squirrels in the following photo.
